Many furniture online shops advertise with the statement "With us you buy directly from the manufacturer". This statement is misleading and wrong in most cases, because almost all online retailers are pure trading companies that do not have their own production. Just like any furniture store, the furniture is commissioned from external manufacturers, produced there and sold on via the online shop. Because the manufacture of upholstered furniture is very wage-intensive, most of the production facilities are not in Germany but in European and Asian low-wage countries.
