Shanghai Jiaotong University is one of the most famous universities in my country with the longest history and well-known at home and abroad. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Shanghai. After more than 120 years of unremitting efforts, Shanghai Jiaotong University has become a "comprehensive, research-oriented, and international" domestic first-class and internationally renowned university. At the end of the 19th century, the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 was defeated and the nation was in distress. Sheng Xuanhuai, a well-known modern industrialist and educator in modern China, upholds the belief that “self-reliance lies in the accumulation of talents, and the talents must first start learning”. In 1896, he founded Nanyang College, the predecessor of Jiaotong University in Shanghai. At the beginning of the establishment of the school, the school established the purpose of "seeking realism and doing business", with the goal of cultivating "first-class talents", diligent, enterprising, and tireless. In the 1920s and 1930s, the school has become a well-known higher education in China A university, known as "Eastern MIT". During the Anti-Japanese War, the majority of teachers and students went through hardships, moved to the concession, moved to Chongqing, and insisted on running schools. Many students turned to the army and took a bloody battle. On the eve of liberation, teachers and students actively participated in the democratic revolution, and the school was known as the "fortress of democracy." In the early days of the founding of New China, in order to meet the needs of the country's economic construction and build the new China's higher education system, the school adjusted a considerable part of its superior majors and teaching equipment to support the development of domestic fraternal universities. In the mid-1950s, the school responded to the country's call to build a greater northwest, and experienced westward migration and division. It was divided into Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi'an. In March 1959, the two parts were listed as national key universities at the same time. In July, they were independently established under the approval of the State Council. The Shanghai part of Jiaotong University adopted the name of "Shanghai Jiaotong University". In the 1960s and 1970s, the school was under the leadership of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission and the Sixth Ministry of Machinery Industry, actively engaged in national defense talent training and national defense scientific research, and made great contributions to the "two bombs and one satellite" and national defense modernization. Since the reform and opening up, the school has been determined to advance the reform with the spirit of "dare to be the first in the world": the first to form a delegation of professors to visit the United States, the first to implement the reform of the school management system, and the first to accept huge donations from overseas friends, etc., which strongly promoted the school's teaching Scientific research reform. In 1984, Comrade Deng Xiaoping cordially met with school leaders and representatives of teachers and students, and fully affirmed the various reforms of the school. With the strong support of the state and Shanghai, the school aims to "improve the level and create a first-class", with discipline construction as the leader, and has successively restored and built science, management, life, law and humanities. In 1999, Shanghai Agricultural College was merged; in 2005, it merged with Shanghai Second Medical University. So far, the school has completed the discipline layout of a comprehensive university. In the past 20 years, through the construction of the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" "Double First Class" projects, the school has gradually gathered high-level talents, and its scientific research strength has been rapidly improved, which has realized the transformation to a research university. At the same time, the school has achieved important breakthroughs in the implementation of its internationalization strategy through cooperation with world-class universities such as the University of Michigan in the United States. The construction of the Minhang campus started in 1985. After more than 30 years, it has been basically constructed into a modern university campus with perfect facilities and a beautiful environment, and completed the shift of the school's focus to the Minhang campus. The school currently has campuses in Xuhui, Minhang, Huangpu, Changning, Qibao and Pudong, with a total area of ​​more than 3 million square meters. Through a series of reforms and constructions, the school’s various school-running indicators have risen significantly, achieving leapfrog development, and the overall strength has been significantly enhanced, laying a solid foundation for building a world-class university.
