The Cultural Club -

ABOUT THE CLUB The Cultural Club is a cultural institution that enjoys a legal personality, working and contributing to the advancement of cultural affairs through its various programs and activities and through cooperation and integration links with institutions working in the Omani cultural scene in the public and civil sectors committed to knowledge development in all its dimensions and contents. The club is also considered the first cultural gathering that is characterized by general and comprehensiveness with the aim of strengthening cultural, social and professional ties between all spectrums of intellectuals and encouraging them to establish bridges of effective cooperation with relevant or similar scientific and cultural institutions. Since its inception, the club has been keen to develop its activities to contribute to its cultural and intellectual life in Oman, deepening its paths and crystallizing its frameworks and milestones, as there are many manifestations and methods of the club’s movement on the cultural map by organizing lectures and seminars in all cultural, creative, literary, scientific, artistic, religious and political fields to which intellectuals participate and are invited. Thinkers and scholars, or through seminars and discussion groups, in which issues and topics related to the contemporary cultural process are presented and discussed, in addition to presenting and discussing the latest achievements in the field of thought and literature. Establishment and naming: The club was established in 1983, according to Royal Decree No. 31/83, under the name “University Club”, under the supervision of the Minister of Education and Youth Affairs at the time. Its goals at the time were limited to: Documenting cultural and social ties between Omani youth who are graduates of universities and similar scientific institutes and others who wish to study and achieve even if they do not hold university qualifications. Providing scientific references and literature to its members to encourage them to continue studying and increase in science and knowledge and its developments in its various fields. Cooperating with other scientific and cultural bodies and centers within the Sultanate And abroad to raise the artistic and cultural level in the Sultanate. In 1986 AD, the name of the club was changed from “University Club” to “Cultural Club”, pursuant to Royal Decree No. 42/86, while it continued to perform its activities in accordance with its statute and all its provisions determined by the decree of its establishment. Reorganization: In 2008, the Cultural Club witnessed a radical change in its objectives and work paths, as the Royal Decree No. 15/2008 was issued to reorganize the Cultural Club, which assigned the task of supervising it to the Minister of Heritage and Culture instead of the Minister of Education. The decree also defined the lub's new goals as follows: Documenting cultural and social ties between intellectuals and creators in various cultural, artistic and other fields. Spread cultural awareness through appropriate methods and tools, including holding cultural seminars and lectures at the club’s headquarters, and inviting members and the public to benefit from them. (C) Holding or participating in art exhibitions and cultural evenings for the purpose of publicity Literary and intellectual productions of members and intellectuals. Cooperation and coordination with the various concerned authorities, bodies and scientific centers Inside or outside the Sultanate to raise the artistic and cultural level in the Sultanate. (E) Inviting Arab creative people and intellectuals and others in various intellectual fields And literary exhibitions or participation in cultural evenings And lectures at the club's headquarters.
